Premarket prices do not determine where a stock will open or trade during the regular session.

Understand Premarket Trading Risks

Premarket trading can involve lower liquidity, wider bid-ask spreads and greater price volatility than regular-hours trading.

Displayed prices may also differ between trading venues, and the quoted price may not be available when an order is executed.

Questions about the premarket session

What time does premarket trading start?
The session runs from 4:00am Eastern to 9:30am. Individual brokers set their own start times and many do not accept orders before 7:00am.
Can anyone trade premarket?
Most US brokers allow it once you enable extended hours on the account. Order types are usually limited to limit orders, and some brokers cap order size.
Is premarket a good predictor of the open?
Weakly, and less so the thinner the volume. Direction holds more often than magnitude, so a stock up eight percent premarket frequently opens up two.
Why are premarket spreads so wide?
Fewer participants means fewer resting orders. With a thin book, the gap between the best bid and the best offer widens, and a market order can fill far from the last price.
What moves stocks in premarket?
Earnings released before the open, company announcements, analyst rating changes, and overnight news from other markets.
