Turning on extended hours in TradingView is a two-click change on a supported intraday stock or ETF chart.
The quickest method is to click ETH in the lower-right corner of the chart and select Extended Trading Hours. You can use the chart settings if the ETH button is not visible.
How do you turn on extended hours in TradingView?
To turn on extended hours through chart settings:
- Open the stock or ETF on a TradingView chart.
- Right-click anywhere on the chart.
- Select Settings.
- Open the Symbol tab.
- Find Session.
- Select Extended Trading Hours.
- Click OK.
Extended hours add pre-market and post-market price data beside the regular trading session. TradingView explains the session options in its extended-hours data guide.
What does the ETH button do?
The ETH button switches the chart between regular trading hours and extended trading hours. On supported symbols, the button appears in the lower-right area of the chart.
Click ETH, then select Extended Trading Hours.
The ETH button appears only when TradingView has extended-hours data for the symbol. It may not appear for instruments or exchanges that do not provide pre-market or post-market data.
What if the ETH button is missing?
If the ETH button is missing, change the session through the chart settings:
- Right-click the chart.
- Select Settings.
- Choose Symbol.
- Set Session to Extended Trading Hours.
This setting will not create pre-market or post-market candles if TradingView does not provide extended-hours data for the symbol. TradingView notes that the Extended Trading Hours option can remain visible even when no extended-hours data is available.
Do extended hours work on daily charts?
Extended-hours data is intended for intraday chart intervals. Use an interval such as:
- 1 minute
- 5 minutes
- 15 minutes
- 1 hour
If the chart is set to daily or weekly, switch to an intraday timeframe before checking the ETH setting. TradingView documents its session controls for intraday charts in its guide to hourly chart sessions.
How do you show overnight trading on TradingView?
To show overnight trading, select 24h instead of Extended Trading Hours when the option is available.
ETH generally shows pre-market and post-market activity. The 24h session can combine regular hours, extended hours and overnight data for supported US stocks.
To enable it:
- Open a supported US stock chart.
- Select an intraday timeframe.
- Right-click the chart.
- Click Settings.
- Open the Symbol tab.
- Select 24h under Session.
- Click OK.
TradingView says the 24h option is available for BOATS-supported US stocks. More details are available in its guide to overnight trading sessions.
Does showing extended hours allow orders outside regular hours?
No. Showing extended-hours candles does not automatically allow an order to execute outside regular trading hours.
For eligible orders:
- Open the TradingView order panel.
- Create or modify a supported order.
- Select Fill order outside RTH.
- If available, select Fill take profit outside RTH.
TradingView documents this option for Paper Trading and supported brokers. It applies to limit orders and instruments such as stocks, ETFs, bonds and depositary receipts. Extended-hours trading can involve higher volatility. See TradingView's guide to trading during extended hours.
How do you remove the extended-hours shading?
To change or remove the shading around pre-market and post-market sessions:
- Open Chart Settings.
- Go to the Symbol tab.
- Adjust the extended-hours colour or background tint settings.
The Symbol settings control how TradingView highlights extended-hours data.
Which TradingView session should you use?
| What you want to do | TradingView setting |
|---|---|
| Show only regular market hours | Regular Trading Hours |
| Show pre-market and after-hours data | Extended Trading Hours or ETH |
| Show supported overnight stock trading | 24h |
| Place orders outside regular hours | Enable Fill order outside RTH in the order panel |
Use Extended Trading Hours for pre-market and post-market candles. Use 24h when you need supported overnight stock data. If neither option shows extra candles, TradingView may not provide that data for the selected symbol.
